really liked it
bookshelves: religions, political-thought
Recommended for: those who need some faith in humanity restored
Read in September, 2008

This man is a nice balm to rash of climbers who risk their health and the health of others on attempts to summit Himalayan peaks. After being nursed to health after a failed attempt to climb K2, Mortenson returns to the people of rural Pakistan and works with locals to build schools.

This makes me want to read more about the empowering of women achieved through the micro-credit movement. Next: Muhammad Yunus

Angie Have you read Kabul Beauty School? It's not really about micro-credit, but it's a pretty inspiring story about women in Afghanistan who are trying (and succeeding at) to become independent from men.

Julie no, I'll have to read it - I sort of got turned off by the title but I should look deeper, eh?
