Mark L says:

There is something about water and a boat and the personal solitude that holds a potential for clarity. When that boat is a kayak, the intemacy, impact, and the open touch of spirit adds depth.

John is a broken man in the middle of his life and the pieces are barely holding together. His college-age son has just died, his wife has left him, and the ranch his grandfather homesteaded, on which John has always lived, is suddenly more burden than pride.

His childhood dream, to follow the stream that runs through the property and meets the Mississippi, then down to the Gulf of Mexico, becomes his obsessioin and his opportunity for salvation.

It is a memorable journey for the reader, and the views, the history, and the questions of meaning touch the heart of anyone who values life.

This would be a great bookclub book.
