really liked it

The book “To Heaven and Back,” by Mary C. Neal, is a memoir of the author’s extraordinary life, consisting of surreal events that could only be explained by the interventions of heavenly beings. This is a classic story of someone who dies and goes to heaven, but is sent back to Earth to accomplish God’s will. What makes this story unique is that the author is an orthopedic surgeon who is trained to automatically look for scientific explanations for everything that happens causing her to be skeptical about these kinds of things. But when she can’t possibly find a scientific reasoning for the unbelievable events and numerous accounts with angels throughout her life, she is left with only one explanation being the obvious workings of God.
This book takes place in the many different places that she lives and visits throughout her life with her family, friends, and colleagues, although the main event where she gets a glimpse of heaven takes place in South America where she drowns in a river after going down a waterfall in a kayak, trapped underwater for about 22 minutes. After this incident, she began to realize how everything bad that happens and every obstacle that she faces in her life are God’s way of showing her that there is something much better in the future.
I really enjoyed reading this book. While reading it, I had a hard time putting it down because of the suspense and the amazement of the story. The only part I disliked about the book is how it did not go into great detail about heaven and how it looked and what it was like. But overall, it was an outstanding book with an incredible plot line. I would recommend this book to anybody who is struggling with their faith or is just looking for an inspirational read that will give you hope. The book isn’t very long and definitely goes by fast. It’s also very straight-forward and to-the-point, making it fairly easy to read.
This book is similar to many of the other books that have been written by people who have had the opportunity to visit heaven and return to Earth to retell the story, although it is unique in that she tells of her experiences of previous encounters with angels on many different occasions. It also gives advice and quotes bible verses that relate to every chapter, which sets it apart from all of the other books that talk about their experiences with God.
