This is historical fiction about Ernest Hemingway's first marriage to Hadley Richardson. Having been to the Hemingway house in Key West multiple times I was intrigued by the story line, but Hemingway was a temperamental artist who made life difficult for people around him. He married 4 times; I find it difficult to understand how one woman could put up with him, much less 4. Not my kind of guy I guess. But it is one thing to be told on a tour how difficult he was and another to become involved in the emotions of a woman who loved him. The novel follows Hadley as she falls in love with Hemingway, lives with him in Europe for several years, and comes back to the US alone.
