really liked it
bookshelves: listened-to

Jodi had purchased this audio book and I decided to give it a try. It is a series of five small novels of which only two were written. They take place after the German invasion of France. The first novels involves various story lines of people escaping Paris during the Nazi invasion of France. The second novel I enjoyed very much involves the German occupation of a small French village. It describes in great richness the relationship between German soliders and the French and the mixed emotions of some of the French women (more then the men) toward the German occupiers. The relationship are quite complex and it makes for interesting reading. The other novels were never written as the Jewish author was arrested and later died in a concentration camp. The daughters didn't read the manuscript until the 1990s and it was first published in 1998.
