Secret Roads, the second of the Aona books, adds a lot more depth to the story that began with Oblivion's Forge. The various people come to life even more and you find out much more about them. Simon has created complex, deep characters who you can really care about. The story continues at a pace, with surprising plot twists and storylines that go in new and fascinating directions. All of this is underpinned once again by a dark, brooding feel that makes the book really atmospheric. In short, the author has come up with a sequel which is even better than the first book. I love it and await the third book impatiently!
