I thought this book was going to be a fun peek into the lives of a community I know ZERO about. I did enjoying learning more about the lives of Romany Gypsies which was fun and fascinating! I was not expecting the darker elements of the book that literally made me sick to my stomach. And yet...I couldn't put it down. Difficult to read but I kept hoping for the silver linings. Overall, I really enjoyed this book but could never recommend it as it's truly a difficult read.

What I really liked about this book was how the author, Mikey Walsh (a pseudonym), was able to write in his own voice at the different ages he represented in the book. That is, when he wrote about his six-year-old self his tone was innocent, confused and desperate for love and attention. By the end of the book, his writing really indicative of his adult lifestyle, sense of humor and maturity. It was satisfying to 'see' him...grow up before my very eyes (as weird as that sounds).

Haunting story. Fascinating. Gnarly.

Chrystal Sturm Completely possible. Yes, I think it's odd that MW uses a pseudonym but true or false...still an enthralling read. And I've never seen the Big Fat Gypsy wedding show but I will be sure to check it out now!
