really liked it

OK, this is a brilliant book and I understand why it has been praised so highly by so many. I gave it four stars instead of five because there were many long parts of the book that I just did not enjoy reading. I did like the second half, and a couple of characters seemed to redeem themselves at the end, though one son just remained flat-out despicable. The characters and the family interactions are realistic in ways that are both scary and touching. It's worth reading, and I will probably read Franzen's second book, Freedom, at some point, but not right away.
