I will read anything Megan Abbott writes always forever. But this didn't blow me away like Queenpin did, even though I liked the narrative voice and general plot better than The Song is You. Maybe Abbott's noir themes are wearing thin on me (loss of innocence/purity, betrayal, secret shame...which are all genre tropes too I guess), and I really wish she would play around wih the genre more rather than playing INTO it.

Still, she does have a way with words, and the subtext in this one actually does become the main text (finally!) but then the lezzies are murdered, so. As integral as it was, and as much of an emotional gutting as that scene in the hotel with the trunks is, after Louise kicked it, I lost sixty percent of my interest.
