Marvels is a truly great work, from fantastic painted artwork, the first time that has been used in comic books, to the groundbreaking story. It tells the story of the main Marvel superheroes through the eyes ( or one eye, as he loses one whilst photographing a fight netween Namor, the sub-mariner and the original Human Torch) of a New York photographer, Phil Sheldon. It takes place from just before the American involvement in WW2, up to the early 70's and the death of Peter Parkers girlfriend, Gwen Stacey. Its to the writers credit that as well as incorporating the Marvel universe, he has made it seem as it actually happened, telling the tales from a human angle. Very impressive artwork throughout, and an original, thought-provoking story that anyone with the slightest interest in graphic novels must read......
