A nice and readable introduction to the science of smell. It contains some fascinating facts about the importance of smell in our health and day-to-day lives. Written by a scientist, it takes some arguable positions but Herz is pretty clear when she is stating her own hypotheses. Some topics, like the history of perfume, are given a glancing treatment; the book is best when describing the underlying science of smell psychology.
