This fantasy/thriller/spy novel mash-up started out with a serious bang as the hook of the story had me right at the beginning: woman loses memory, writes letters to her "new self" to instruct her on how to solve the mystery of who is trying to kill her. I should mention that the woman in question is a "Rook" for a super secret paranormal MI-6 kind of organization in London who fights demons, creatures, cultists and a motley assortment of strange beings. So, this isn't going to be easy. The book tampers down about half-way through and O'Malley starts trying to be on the cheeky side with his dialogue and it almost lost me, but then it comes back to the hard-boiled espionage + creatures + who dun it that had cast a spell over me. This is a fun one.
