#6 in a series I keep wondering why I read. I can identify with the "getting up there" main character. The writing is engaging and I enjoy the recurring characters. But it is not a gentle read: too much of the plot is emotionally disturbing. It's not mom-lit: Ali's family is peripheral to the plot. It's not even a mystery: you know "who dun it" pretty much from the get-go. Not a police procedural, though it starts with Ali at the Police Academy and police are involved. I didn't even find it a thriller or suspenseful. But still as my rating showed "I liked it."
