When grandpa wakes up in the morning his hat has gone missing. That isn't good since he always, ALWAYS wears his hat from when he wakes up till he goes to sleep so he doesn't know how to start his day. The only thing he can do is to go and look for the hat so he can start the day properly. But while he's looking for it unexpected things start to happen.

It's safe to say Sven Nordqvist is one of my all time favorite childrens book authors. It should say something that my avatar here is Findus, his best known character of all time. His stories are quirky, take you to the unexpected places and can touch even an adult reader. Besides his incredibly detailed illustrations are just joy to look at and you can really look at them for a long time without getting bored. This book is no exception.

Grandpas journey to try and find his hat is more interesting and surprising than you think when you start. More over, it is very touching especially someone who isn't a child anymore. What grandpa goes through is something I think most adult can relate to. But that is also the one minor objection I have about this book. I'm not sure if small children know how to relate to the story when they don't have lived life behind them the same way adults have.

All in all, this is definitely a favorite book and something I'll want to return to in the future.
