really liked it

Not the most entertaining of the series, but still a fun read all the same. I liked the solution to this particular mystery and like the book before it, wraps up the story well with still leaving interesting questions unanswered. You can tell that this novel is the start of Peters thinking long term in terms of this series, setting up an adversary that is a match for Amelia and Emerson. The minor characters in this novel are also really interesting and fun in their own respect. Elizabeth Peters has a great talent for making all her characters very alive no matter how little they are involved in the narrative. Like I said before, they are not some of my favorite in the series and are not as flushed out as those in the proceeding novel, but interesting all the same.

We also get introduced to Ramses in this novel as any actual character and not just a footnote and though I do not dislike him, he kind of annoys me. Since that is kind of the idea, as he annoys his own mother, it is not a hindrance to the narrative at all, but I found myself wanting to shake him at times. However, what is to be expected of the child of Amelia and Emerson when they barely reign in their less than shinning qualities at times. Overall another fun and interesting trip to Egypt with the Emerson family
