it was ok

I love historical novels but felt this one was poorly done. I didn't get a sense of place and time with the writing. The basic story was good but drawn out way too long, it goes very flat toward the middle. Some of it's flaws may have been a sloppy translation - I'm pretty sure women in medieval Bavaria didn't get "knocked up," or call each other dumbass I almost stopped reading when I read that one. And are we such dense reader that we need to be given each character's first and last names and occupation EVERY time they are mentioned. If you love historical fiction, or would like to try it I highly recommend any of Sharon Kay Penman's books. They are beautifully written, and will transport you to another place and time.
