it was ok
bookshelves: humor, memoir

I picked up this book because I needed some really, really good laughs. The title certainly sounded promising in that regard (to say nothing of the endorsement by Stephen Colbert on the cover), but for the most part, these stories did not even lightly tickle my funny bone. (Well, except for the camel trekking story -- that had some LOL momemts.) The author did, however, succeed in convincing me that my youthful dreams of off-the-beaten-track, low-cost backpacking travel need to remain just that -- youthful dreams. At this point in my life, I'm no longer willing to go for days without bathing, sleep sitting up on a train (or worse, lying on the train station floor), or suffer Montezuma's revenge in a cut-rate hostel with the only bathroom in the yard out back. So I guess it's true: with age comes wisdom. (-:
