A couple years ago I read the book, The Giver, and then more recently found out it was the start of a whole series. I was disappointed when book two did not leave off where book one ended, but this third book ties things together. In this book, we find out what happened to Matty and Kira’s dad from book two, and Jonas from book one. About a month ago I watched The Giver movie, so that was fresh in my mind (even though there were some differences between the book and the movie). I always feel like these books are incomplete, more an allegory tale than a fleshed out book, so that style feels weird to me. These are more a children’s lesson, to read in your reading group at school. I did enjoy Matty over the two books, and he was maybe the most real character of the series. I wonder why things keep happening the way they do, nothing is ever much explained, and I hope that the fourth book will bring things into focus.
