really liked it

This fascinating book provides a very readable and accessible account of the inevitable tragedy of the conflict between the United States expansion into the Great Plains and native Americans by telling the life stories of Custer and Crazy Horse. It is sad to read about how things could have been different, but it is virtually impossible to imagine how the two ways of life could have co-existed in the North American west. Ambrose is a very good writer who makes both main characters come alive.
