it was amazing
bookshelves: non-fiction
Read in February, 2009

I'm upgrading my rating of this book. This is the 3rd time I've read it--once in high school, and once in 2007. The last time I read it, I think I had just finished re-reading The Hiding Place. When you compare the two books together, this one seems so gloomy and hopeless. This year I re-read it because I'm teaching a class on it, and by itself (i.e., not reading The Hiding Place first) it stands alone as an honest, realistic portrayal of life in a concentration camp. Very gloomy and depressing, but also very, very real. I can see why this is a classic.
