I read this for my book group. Not something I would have chosen on my own, I think. It was pretty good, but I think it was aware of itself perhaps a little too much. This happens often when an adult uses a child main character: they can funnel a great deal of profundity into that character, which doesn't seem true of children to me. Children often experience the world in a way that is quite different from the way adults remember their own childhood experiences.

I also think that there was a lot of unnecessary, and maybe even cute additions to the core narrative, layers of narration and intrusions that didn't make sense and felt a little forced.
