I must say that once again I was referred to a christian novel that seemed to have a lot of hype behind it, but once again it did not live up to the hype. First, the setting is outdated. I know that it was written in the 1980s, but the setting does not stand the test of time. Second, Joshua's experiences in the "modern" time mirrors his experiences from biblical times. I could not help but wonder why he would repeat these activities. If he was just coming back to repeat his biblical life, why not bypass the story. Just read the bible! Third, the dialogue does not flow. It is very strained. This makes it difficult to follow the story at times. Fourth and most importantly, the idea that Christ would return again in the same form as he did over 2000 years ago is just bad. Before Christ left this earth, he told the people that he was giving them the gift of the Holy Spirit. (see Acts 1:3-5). So, even hypothetically, this story idea is not biblically based, and therfore cannot even be consider inspirational. The job of the Holy Spirit is to reveal Christ to the people and continue to help Christians strive to do what is right. Additionally, Christ even told the people that he would return with the ending of this world (see 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17). So, I must say that I was not inspired by this novel. I think it messes with the ignorance of mankind and the belief in something that is unseen.
