This book reads very easily, and attempts to portray historical characters with many genuine traits.
The story is fairly good, but it lacks in some context. We read about how the main character wants to usher in a new Russia, but the flaws of the old Russia are not laid bare. Rather the crux of the book focuses on injustices to one or two main characters, while a lot more could have been said of how Catherine's predecessors were running Russia, and thus why people put their hopes in her.
