Redshirts is one part homage to geek culture, one part lesson on writing sci-fi, one part treatise on the concept of free will, and another part mind bending twist that glues the other parts together.

Scalzi's dialogue is crisp and humorous, and drives the plot. Exposition is kept to a minimum, which is meant to keep the focus on the characters.

The twist took me out of the story for a while, and the codas finally helped me understand what Scalzi was trying to accomplish.

3 stars because i still don't know how I feel about the book.

Language: drops the f-bomb
Sexual content: includes innuendo and adult conversations.
