This is a part of the "A Very Short Introduction" series, a collection of informative, brief books on a variety of topics. It's a little difficult to imagine a "short introduction" to Literary Theory, but I guess this qualifies. Some of the examples Culler chose got annoying with repetition, but they were useful in explaining the basic tenets of Theory (with a big "T"). I feel this might be a useful Introduction to LCST text, but since I was already familiar with a lot of the material covered, so it was more of refresh, and I couldn't say whether if I were new to the topic if it were new to me.
