A glittering gem...stark, rich and unforgiving, a grandmother and granddaughter navigate summers on an isolated Finnish island, a self-sustaining and self-contained microcosm of the cycles of life. Observant, canny, wise, and naughty, they both deceive and, if necessary, work around the anxiety of their son and father as they strip the passing of the days to an essence, a still point beyond time and the pretense of "reality".

"My dear child," said Grandmother impatiently, "every human being has to make his own mistakes."
