This is the best sort of fairytale retelling! It's like you know the old story of Sleep Beauty, but this takes you around to a side door and lets you peer through a stained-glass window and the view is ALL different from this angle. Familiar. But fresh. I loved it. Also it gay 😌and I have to say, if there's anything to take away from a fairy tale, it should be this: girls can wear armour and run away from their weddings to boring princes if they want to. I also loved the twist at the end, it isn't as simple as you'd think, when the queen kisses the princess to wake her...
Best of all it makes me want a WHOLE book for this.
I also adored the illustrations! They're all black-and-white, spidery line drawings, that just had such emotion in each sketch. They absolutely carried the mood of the story and I couldn't love them more. It fits SO well. Half in love with the queen and her valiant frown now too :')
