really liked it

This is kind of a weird one for me to review. Since I read the original version of Queen of Glass back in its FictionPress days and had read the first chapter preview of Throne of Glass, I knew exactly where the end of this novella would take me. Which meant that not only did this novel lack any shocks or surprises, but the two big moments ((view spoiler)) also lacked a certain punch as I already knew about them. Since this is a novella, there wasn't much room for anything other than these events, and so I am left in this weird place. I can't deny that it's a good set-up for Throne of Glass itself, nor can I deny that it's well-written, but it was hard to be captivated as much as I would have liked to. I do recommend The Assassin and the Empire, definitely, but I just wish it had packed more of OOMPH. For me, that is.
