In HS I read quite a few Civil War books, but never read this one surprisingly. I'm glad I finally took the time to, listening to most of it on a Play-Away Audiobook while I exercised.

Crane writes with ideal imagery and metaphors, perfect in execution. The story itself, though, is passive and very much a telling story with little showing. If you like this oldish and dated style it won't bother you, but sometimes my modern mind really wanted more dialogue and battle scenes. The language is beautiful regardless and made reading the book worth it.
