Basic Christianity

by John R.W. Stott
Why would anyone be interested in the historical Jesus? Isn’t he some old, archaic person whose life and deeds have only been misrepresented by a brand of Christianity that has become more and more marginalized? Are you interested in knowing about Christ and his claims? Would you consider yourself as one who would like to know more about the historical Jesus? Then Basic Christianity by John R. W. Stott is a great book for you. The book discusses the identity of Christ Jesus. Who is he, and what claims did he make? Then Stott wisely and accurately discusses humankind, what we people are truly like and why all of us need what Christ has to offer. When we understand who we are and what we need, Jesus Christ becomes a wonderful person to meet the deepest needs of our lives. In the final section, Stott carefully helps the earnest reader understand why a person should make a personal commitment to Christ and what it costs to make a personal commitment to Christ.
If you are a long-time follower of Christ, you will find this book to be a refresher on the truths of Christ and salvation. You should take this book and read it. If you are a new believer, you as well would find the book to be a healthy reminder of what it means to be born again. If you are a seeker, or even a skeptic, you would find this book a short but accurate portrayal of what it means to be a follower of Christ. And finally, I have a few friends who started life as followers of Christ only to have abandoned their faith for agnosticism. Even these folk would find the book a healthy and helpful read on their life’s journey.
