really liked it
bookshelves: audiobooks, british, fantasy, fiction, mystery-thriller, paranormal

I mostly really enjoyed this book as an urban fantasy/ police procedural, performed by the always excellent Kobna Holdbrook-Smith. But l am feeling conflicted about reading books like this now, that have a police officer as a heroic main character (even a Black one, as is Peter Grant) and are by white authors. Even with a Black audiobook narrator.

It would be nice if the novels dealt with police brutality and police racism, or at the very least if Aaronovtich acknowledged he's a white person making money off writing a Black character and portraying the police in a positive light. It doesn't sit well with me.
