really liked it

The novel is set in 16th century Venice, where a Jewish midwife, against the law, assists a Christian countess with the birth of her child in return for a large fee which she hopes to use to pay the ransom for her husband who has been taken captive on Malta. Chapters alternate between the husband and wife as each struggles to survive and to be reunited with the other. This book is an easy to read page turner, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would!
