** spoiler alert ** Hmm, the plot overshadowed the characters occasionally in this book, I thought. And because it was particularly sordid - and explored the implications of rape from all sides really well (Bonita's reaction was totally believable to me, if really sad to read), it took on a gravitas that I don't know if it really fits my view of the series so far - as fun UF mystery team books with some romance bits thrown in.

I liked the way that the PUPI started to manipulate public opinion in the Talented society, but I did think that this went FAR too smoothly. As anyone who follows various fail due to sound bites can see, a rumor often takes on a life of its own and bites people indiscriminately.

(view spoiler)

The "Nicky is a good friend" thing here worked, as did Sharon and Bonnie, but I can't see (as it says in the third book) that Nicky is her best friend among the PUPI. I would have easily said Pietr to that. Hmm - so maybe it is unreliable narration, because Bonnie doesn't see it herself?

So this was more of a mixed back with regards to my expectations.
