I wanted to like this book far more than I did. I did like it more than Safe Haven, the ending of which I hated. It was just too trite. I was not happy with the ending of this book either, it just seemed to be missing something. I think his Nicholas Sparks' writing has just become too formulatic. As others have said, I also felt talked down to several times in this book. I don't need basic things explained to me, and Nicholas, you didn't give a good description of what crabs actually are, your description was slightly childish.
The redeeming features of this book are that the hero and heroine are very likeable.
I loved Nights In Rodanthe and The Last Song, and wish that Sparks would go back to writing less formulatic books. The last two have not encouraged me to read any more of his newer books...
