This was damn near a 5 star book.. Im not sure what held me back.

A young man is killed in the local park and his classmate is accused. The story is primarily told through the perspective of the accused's father, who is an assistant DA. The story isn't told with a linear narrative, skipping between a mostly linear story of the trial of Jake, interspersed with grand jury testimony from later on in the timeline, leading the reader to wonder nearly from the get go "what on earth happened?".

A friend commented that she saw the ending coming. I have to say that I did not. I had an inkling of what it may have been and who was involved, but I hadn't worked it out completely (being totally distracted while reading might have played into my not seeing it).

Despite a rather dramatic ending, the author leaves you with questions - which will be good fodder for our bookclub discussion.
