Just a short introduction to the series.

Frightened adults indoctrinate their kids with their fear of powerful elementals. Even when those elementals are kids.

Michael Merrick is one such kid. He can draw the power of the Earth, but his parents have made an agreement with the town that he won't use his power. It is the only thing keeping him and his family safe.

Emily Morgan is very frightened when she meets him at her summer job because all her life her family has told her how bad Michael is, how out-of-control. Instead, Emily comes to realise it is her family who is mean and out-of-control.

A nice set-up for the rest of the series.
