Started out pretty well, then I found myself not caring after about 1/2 through the book. Nothing really changed as far as tone or writing style, I just kind of drifted and decided the main characters weren't interesting enough, I guess... ?

The wife is a harpy, the stepfather is evil, the kids are wise beyond their years, the mystery isn't really mysterious and our two main characters are kind of boring. At no point did I feel compelled to keep reading and find out what happens next.
Not a bad book, just, meh.
