bookshelves: fairies
Read from April 28 to May 26, 2012

I read the reviews of this book and I guess I must be the odd one out as I found it just okay. The beginning was slow and predictable and the love triangle was nothing new. The concept of the fae carrying their powers as markings on their bond was different and the story did pick up towards the end. Alannah was a princess and due to come into untold powers and the evil sorcerer Malingo captured her to use her to raise an army and defeat the five kingdoms. She initially fell in love with Kaleb a neighbouring prince but when she was captured she rescued (sort of)Brennus who was a warrior fae. Alannah's inability to chose who she loved and their easy acceptance of waiting for her decision kind of annoyed me. She later found out Brennus was a prince also but by then he was being forced into an arranged marriage for the good of his kingdom Anrad. I did not really get invested in the characters and I did find it unremarkable but pleasant enough.
