really liked it
bookshelves: favorites

I remember reading this all of once in my third grade classroom growing up. Why is it one of my favorites, and why do I rate it so highly? Because even after just one reading, it's always stuck with me (especially the ending) and it holds one of my fondest memories as a reader.

When books are good enough, I'm able to just shut everything out except what I'm reading. This was achieved as a child when we were reading this one chapter at a time, and I was so engrossed with it that I kept reading all the way to the ending, not hearing anybody or seeing anything...until the teacher suddenly realized I was not learning how to tell time with all the other kids at the exact opposite end of the classroom. I didn't even notice them get up, I heard none of their voices. I was focused solely on the book.

That's why it deserves this kind of praise from me. Only a few books can do that.
