Nineteen-year-old Martha Ryan was at the end of the jetty, watching the sun come up and fascinated by the colours when a stranger walked down the length of the jetty toward her. It was Thomas Blake and that was the beginning of a friendship which soon turned to love. But Martha’s mother was against any relationship with Thomas – the Ryans were wealthy; Thomas’ family were the stationmasters of River’s End and definitely not good enough for Martha.

Thomas dreamed of painting; his work was exceptional. But his father wanted Thomas to follow in his footsteps. Martha wanted more than what her family wanted for her. Were they both strong enough to have a future together? Love and a family was what they both wanted – together – but they were pushing against prejudices. What would be the outcome for the young couple?

Taming the Wind is the short story prequel to The Stationmaster’s Cottage by Aussie author Phillipa Nefri Clark and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about a young Martha and Thomas and how it all began. I loved The Stationmaster’s Cottage and Taming the Wind didn’t disappoint. Highly recommended.

With thanks to the author for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
