liked it

From the very beginning of this book, you know that someone has died…..perhaps murdered. Okay… interest is piqued. I enjoyed the first half of this beautifully written Greek like tragedy set at a small college in New England. A small group of misfit (genius) students study the ancient classics with a quirky mentor. It was fascinating to watch the personalities develop into the culminating murder.
The second half…..although interesting and well-written, really seemed to get mired a bit too much in guilt, drugs and booze. Perhaps the authors intent….the more I thought about it, it really did have all the markings of what I perceive to be a classic ancient tragedy.
I read this book because I am also interested in The Goldfinch, by the same author. I will have to think about it.
