This is a South Vietnamese story. There is so much that has been written about the American experience and so little about the South Vietnamese. I really enjoyed the book, it had its poignancy for me, I could see the details of some of the lives of my own South Vietnamese friends. Those I lived and fought beside during my own deployment. As well the details and the felt experience of traditional Vietnaese life not often found in English. The poetry of the people and the beauty of the countryside was so clear, and now so rapidly dsappearing. If I had to recommend only a handful of books for anyone not familiar with this traumatic event in human history, this would be one of them!
