did not like it
Read from April 23 to 24, 2012

People, I am an unabashed fan and defender of Michael Haneke movies, a man who practically invented the word disturbing. I can handle dark. But if you are going to attempt disturbing material and want to push the boundaries, you have to have the skills to back it up. This book - or author - does not. Throwing the words "slut" and "ho" mindlessly and often into the stiff, hackneyed dialogue does not make it edgy. Paralleling the slaughter of chickens with - what? - abuse? lack of conscience? - is not a clever narrative trick. Creating wooden, unlikable characters and then telling the whole story from their different viewpoints - yet keeping the same unbelievable voice for all of these viewpoints - is not good writing. Muddy plots, terrible minor characters, and just unabashed, unnecessary crassness - ugh. Icky. Bad.

Melinda Every review I've seen of this made me want to run screaming in the opposite direction.
