Cycling fans will enjoy this title a lot more than those who don't follow the sport, but even for those who are unfamiliar with the rules and tour names will be able to follow the plot line. High schooler Evan Boroughs happens to be at the right place at the right time and receives an offer to join a professional cycling team on the Tour of California. He'll need to miss school, cancel a skiing trip with his girlfriend and her parents, and disappoint his mother, but he simply can't turn down this opportunity. Evan quickly becomes a part of the cycling world where it isn't clear who can be trusted, and image turns out to be more than reality for some riders. As he heads toward the last days of riding, he becomes disappointed in his cycling role model and realizes that just being on the tour will provide him with fame and access to women who will do anything for a brush with a cyclist. As Evan ponders his future in competitive racing or medical school, he also needs to make some decisions about his girlfriend Glory. The descriptions of the races are captivating, but Evan isn't all that appealing and seems to drift from event to event. I would have liked a little more introspection from him and a bit more awareness about the consequences of some of his choices.
