This fabulous book by Julia Donaldson details the journey of a witch flying through the air on her broom, loosing her possessions and gaining passengers as she goes.
The poetic nature of the book sets the reading at a delightful pace which I believe would be very engaging for children. The rhyme and repetition would provide endless possibilities for child participation and the vocabulary used would provide an opportunity for discussion and expansion of the children's word bank.
The illustrations by Axel Scheffler accompany the text perfectly, providing children with an eye-catching adaptation of the story.
I would use this book in lower primary, particularly EYFS. This is definitely a book for sharing, therefore I would use it for whole class reading. It could even be used a circle time to discuss the importance of acceptance, friendship and looking out for one another.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and intend on purchasing a copy for my own classroom.
