it was ok
bookshelves: contemporary-romance, e-book, m-m, romance

Really wanted to like this one, also because of all the good recommonadation. Started promising and then... I'd say this was rather a typical M/F romance. Just exchange the female part for the male and add some homophobia and you have an m/m novel. Follwed the typical classical M/F romance concept including misunderstanding (which was not pulled of convincingly in my opinion). The main characters where almost too good to believe and some story lines kept me rolling my eyes. I even shut my Kindl down in the big showdown when everybody behaved totally idiotic. But most of all the dialogue buged me. Who says things like "Don't let this break you." and stuff like that?!?! In this regard also the inherit characterization made me wonder - several times it's mentioned, that in Nichols family they did not show affections at all but Nichol was just perfect at it. Always saying and doing the right thing? Where did he learn that? In his short stay in Edinburgh? Several things really bugged me about this one but I don't want to note down spoilers here.

A.B. Gayle I must admit I had a similar reaction to you about the showdown. The way Shona had been depicted, she would have intervened even if the copper didn't and where were the dogs??? Great writing though.

Annika I agree, the writing was great, that's true. You are right about the dogs, I totally forgot about them.
