really liked it

A lovely bit of escapism that I really enjoyed.

A chapter in and I wasn’t sure what to think about this book. I didn’t warm to put-upon volunteer librarian Martha at all, she seemed like such a martyr.

As the story unfolds and the author goes into her family history, I was really invested. Why does she have a book dedicated to her from her grandmother after she had died? Why did her parents behave as they did? Why did Martha give up her life for those around her?

I won’t spoil it, but it’s worth reading and I enjoyed the stories within the story that Martha, Zelda and Betty has written. They really added some insight into the characters too.

The ending was uplifting but open enough and I’m so glad that a romance wasn’t the answer to Martha’s problems!
