really liked it

This is the first entry in the Joe Pickett series. Set in Wyoming, Joe is a game warden drawn into murder, conspiracy, and the Endangered Species Act. I was interested in the series because of its setting in the West and had heard good things about it. The story was great, the characters are real and quite interesting, and the setting was interesting. Joe is not a superhero investigator, but a real guy with a job and a family he's trying to protect from economic woes and also real danger. I found him to be compelling. The conflict between environmental concerns from the easterners and economic necessities of the locals seemed very real for those of us who live in the West. I was so interested in the story that I just devoured it. The only downside was some salty language.
