Well, I’m glad this is now over.
In reality, I should’ve DNF’d this book. I knew it wasn’t going to be for me, but I thought the story would’ve developed more substance as it went on. But it didn’t.

It felt so lacklustre overall, even though I appreciated what this book was trying to do.

I related to Ever in a way. The immigrant story, the guilt, your parents, the expectations they place on you, identity, the disconnect etc. All of us who come from an ethnic background have experienced this in one way shape or form.
But these issues felt like they were glanced over, too rushed. The story was trying to do too much of everything and it left me feeling empty reading it, because they weren’t expanded and built upon. Instead we got a meaningless love triangle. It was all just so underdeveloped, ugh.

It’s a no from me.

Thank you to Dark Room Tours and Simon & Schuster UK for providing me with a copy of this book.

clem ugh i agree with your review so much! i DNF’d it early on bc i knew it wasn’t going to be the immigrant story i was looking for. it was childish and shallow, whereas i wanted to relate to the MC’s disconnection with her culture... i don’t understand how everyone loves it so much —‘ thanks for ur review

ikram i thought it’s only me because everyone on twitter love it :(

I do wished I DNF’d because it left a bad taste in my mouth. 😑
And I agree!! It was so childish! I wish the immigrant story was looked at upon more and her relationship with her parents. But no. We got a meaningless love triangle. 🙄

I don’t get the love either. 😅

Eleanor Grace I've just started it. Only a few chapters in and I'm feeling like its not for me. I'll give to about 20% I think and then DNF if I'm still not into it. I'm seeing such mixed reviews though?

I would say trust your instincts with this one. The first 20% will probably give you an idea where the story is headed and the tone it carries on.

✨Emily I was a bit interested in this one based on the cover but the synopsis wasn’t really for me and no I think I’ll just pass on this. Hopefully your next read is better

Aisha I liked it however I definitely agree that issues like the transition from hating to loving her Asianess/culture was definitely rushed. Hope ur next read is better 🥰

I'm so annoyed it was all rushed, because it could've been a really great and more well-developed story.
Thanks, love! 😊
