I still love his characters. Isolated people who find a way to make a life. I haven't finished it yet though. Luce, the protag is clearly a very cynical woman about love and traditional family units because her own parents were obviously terrible alchoholics and her mother is not really a mother at all. Luce's sister Lilly seems to have chosen the route of believing in love, leading to her own demise. What I love most about the writing is the poetic nature of his descriptions and the fact that he does not have simple characters who are easily labeled with a moral rating of "good" or "bad". I would read a chapter just to hear his descriptions of nature or food. Beautiful.

I have not finished yet though!
